Honing

Honing is a fast and economical way to size a small bore. This process is similar to ID grinding. You can manufacture the part, and we will finish it. Have a special ID on a standard bushing, we can alter it. Tolerances of .0002 (.005mm) can easily be held on a production basis. Turnaround is generally 1 to 3 days.

Size range         .086 dia. (2.2mm) to 1.5 dia. (38mm)

Surface finish Ra 16 (0.4mm) to Ra 32 (0.8mm)

Materials           Steel, Stainless Steel, Bronze, Aluminum and Acetal

Note                     1) The honing process will follow the existing hole. If you must hold a tight tolerance on the hole’s location, ID grinding or Jig Grinding will be a better option for you. 2) When a part length is shorter than the diameter, perpendicularity issues may arise. Leaving less grind stock may help to alleviate this.

The suggested stock allowance in the bore for the honing process is .005 (.13mm) to .008 (.2mm).
